MANILA – Carl Tamayo had another solid offensive game as Changwon LG Sakers prevailed over Seoul SK Knights, 76-71, in Game 2 of the KBL Finals on Wednesday night at the Jamsil Indoor Stadium.

The former University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons forward finished with 27 points, on 10-of-20 field goal shooting, to go with seven rebounds and one assist as the LG Sakers took a 2-0 series lead.

“It’s hard to win two away games, but all the players worked hard and were able to win. I’m also grateful to the manager and coaching staff who organized the team well,” Tamayo said in a post-game interview.

“I’ve played a lot of tough matches since college. Those experiences are helping me now. I studied a lot before the game and thought a lot about how to play, which is also working well,” he added.

Yu Ki-sang chipped in 14 markers, Assem Marei tallied a double-double of 12 points and 14 rebounds to go with four assists, while Heo Il-young contributed 12 markers for the LG Sakers.

“I thought SK would come out stronger, so I wanted the players to hold them on the court, but the players’ focus and good defense despite the opponent’s change until the fourth quarter was the key to the victory,” LG Sakers head coach Cho Sang-hyun said.

“I will think of winning the first two games of the championship series on the road as insurance and focus on preparing for the third game,” he added.

Juan Gomez de Liano finished with 19 points, including three outside conversions, to lead the SK Knights, Jameel Warney had a double-double of 17 points and 12 rebounds, and Kim Sun-hyun contributed 12 markers./PN
