‘Tanod’ faces raps for illegal gun

CAPIZ – A village watchman will face charges for violations of the Commission on Elections gun ban and Republic Act 10591, or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.

The suspect, identified as alias “Toto,” a 32-year-old resident of Barangay Nagsulang, Dumarao, was caught in Barangay Mahunod-hunod, Cuartero, at about 10:55 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 7.

Recovered were a handgun, a magazine, and seven rounds of ammunition.

Major Christian P. Mahometano, chief of Cuartero police, said barangay officials received a report from a certain “Bambam,” a local resident, seeing the suspect carrying a suspicious weapon.

The suspect was allegedly transporting the firearm to his brother in the said area and was reportedly under the influence of alcohol at the time. He was taken to the Cuartero Municipal Police Station for custody./PN
