KALIBO, Aklan – The Kalibo Task Force against Smoking is eyeing to totally ban cigarette and vaping for the Kalibo Sto. Niño Ati-atihan Festival in January 2018.

Kalibo Councilor Cynthia Dela Cruz, chair of the committee on health and environment, on Tuesday said the plan will be implemented in coordination with the Municipal Health Office.

“The task force is also finalizing a soft launch of the smoke-free festivity in October during the Kalibo Ati-atihan Festival opening salvo. This is where we would start informing the public that the town of Kalibo is implementing a smoke-free revelry,” she said.

The Kalibo Sto. Niño Ati-atihan Foundation (KASAFI) has chosen the month of October to formally launch the series of preparation of the festivity.

The use of vaping in both public and revelry areas are also being prohibited.

“Members of the Kool Earth, police auxiliaries and other volunteers including the Philippine National Police will help us strictly implement a smoke-free Ati-atihan festival,” she said.

The Kalibo Ati-atihan is considered a mother of Philippine festivals. (With PNA/PN)
