Tay Tung bags Bacolod basketball tourney crown

MANILA – Bacolod Tay Tung High School Thunderbolts showed its readiness for upcoming competitions by topping the 8th Maji Sports Basketball Tournament over the weekend at the Homesite Gym in Bacolod City.

The Thunderbolts clinched the championship by scoring a 68-56 win over powerhouse Talisay Sharks in the knockout gold medal match behind the exploits of John Ordas.

Ordas was later hailed as the pocket tournament’s Most Valuable Player. He later joined fellow Thunderbolt Kobe Demisana in the Mythical five selection.

On their way to the championship round, the Thunderbolts ousted the University of St. La Salle-Bacolod, 67-59.

Thunderbolts head coach Dexter Dy said their participation in the pocket tournament was part of their preparation for the 2019 Batang Pinoy National Finals slated later this year.

“This championship is a good for the team because we are measuring hanggang saan ang kakayanin namin,” Dy said. “We will be sending the same team to the Batang Pinoy.”

Also part of the Thunderbolts team were Nathan Jundana, Mike Estelloso, Thomas Pillado, Adrielle Binguan, John Ray Castiller, Marvin delos Santos, Dylan Despi, Josh Dignadice, CJ Juguan, and Rafael Ledesma./PN
