MANILA – Bacolod Tay Tung High School Thunderbolts notched its second win in the 2019 Rebisco Volleyball League National Finals via a 25-19, 25-19 crushing of Leyte National High School at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.
Shane Carmona, Alyssa Bertolano and Joan Marie Monares showed flashes of brilliance for the Thunderbolts on Monday. They toppled the Leyteños in straight sets.
Unlike in their match against Iligan City National High School on Saturday, the Thunderbolts engaged in a tight battle with Leyte in the opening set before getting breaks in the end.
The Thunderbolts had a strong start in the second frame. Leyte, however, showed some fight; they were within striking distance before committing errors late in the set allowing the Bacolodnons to wrap up the match.
“There are still things that we need to fix on. May mga errors na puwede naman sanang maiwasan,” Thunderbolts assistant coach Roberto Calamba Jr. said. “Good thing it happens now so that we can still correct it.”
The Western Visayas representatives were playing University of Mindanao Tagum as of press time last night and will close the eliminations against Sibu of Malaysia on Wednesday and Hawaii on Thursday./PN
