BACOLOD CITY — Bacolod Tay Tung High School Thunderbolts stamped their dominance on the 2nd Nukhbah Volleyball Academy U16 Girls Tournament, sweeping Kabankalan, 25-13, 25-18, 25-22, in the championship match at the Montalbo Gym here.
The Thunderbolts left little doubt about their title credentials, controlling the championship match from the opening serve and completing a straight-sets victory behind Finals Most Valuable Player Regine Wong Yan.
Bacolod Tay Tung immediately imposed its game in the opening set, overwhelming Kabankalan with its attack and defense to cruise to a commanding 25-13 victory.
The Thunderbolts maintained their grip on the match in the second frame, keeping Kabankalan from mounting a sustained comeback on their way to a 25-18 win and a commanding two-set advantage.
Kabankalan offered tougher resistance in the third set, but Bacolod Tay Tung held its ground in the crucial stretch to secure a 25-22 victory and complete the championship sweep.
Wong Yan spearheaded the Thunderbolts’ title-clinching performance and was rewarded with both the Finals Most Valuable Player and Player of the Game honors.
Bacolod Tay Tung’s dominant campaign was further underscored by a haul of individual awards.
Czarina Ang was named Best Setter, while Jessica Soco and Nicole Getino took the tournament’s Best Blocker honors. Mari Cacho was recognized as Best Opposite Hitter, while Heart Abucion earned a Best Outside Hitter award.
Kabankalan’s Sheen Arellano joined Abucion as one of the tournament’s Best Outside Hitters, while Princess Joy Sumoroy was named Best Libero.
The tournament, organized by Nukhbah Volleyball Academy, provided a competitive platform for young volleyball players in the under-16 girls division./PN
