ILOILO City – A school teacher accused operatives of the Police Regional Office 6’s (PRO-6) Regional Drug Enforcement Unit (RDEU) of stealing valuables from her home during a raid of a neighbor’s house in Barangay Cuartero, Jaro district.
According to Arlene Bolivar Braga, she lost a wristwatch, a jewelry box and its contents and a piggy bank.
Police Colonel Harold Tuzon, PRO-6 deputy regional director for operations, confirmed having received the complaint.
An investigation would be conducted on RDEU chief Police Lieutenant Jersy Besas and several policemen, he added.
RDEU raided the house of Braga’s neighbor Romeo Tribunal on Dec. 4. But according to the teacher, some cops also barged into her house.
Besas declined to issue a statement. His immediate superior, Tuzon, said PRO-6’s Regional Investigation and Detective Management Division would do the investigation.
His next actions would depend on the result of the probe, said Tuzon.
December last year, RDEU men were also accused of stealing valuables during a raid of the house of 84-year-old Candelaria Regalado in Barangay Sambag, Jaro.
Regalado was the mother-in-law of slain drug lord Melvin Odicta Sr. She claimed to have lost P3-million worth of jewelry and cash, and filed administrative and criminal charges against six RDEU personnel and eight members of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency Region 6./PN
