Team CTAP rules United Iloilo Apatan chess tourney

TEAM Chess Trainers Alliance of the Philippines (CTAP) dominated the third leg of the United Iloilo Apatan Chess Liga held over the weekend at the GT Town Center in Pavia, Iloilo.

Team CTAP, led by national master Cesar Mariano (Board 1), Kris Matthew Garcia (Board 2), Jose Steve Matutino (Board 3) and Leo Aguirre (Board 4), were hailed as champions to pocket P8,000 cash prize.

Central Philippine University Golden Lions of Jan Mar Hondonero (Board 1), Mark Jossel Mariano (Board 2), Sonny Pasco (Board 3) and Fiona Geeweneth Guirhem (Board 4) placed second with P6,000 prize.

Finishing at third place was Team Iloilo Chess Hunters of Dennis Bernas (Board 1), Rosendo Reyes (Board 2), Patrick Panaligan (Board 3) and Hubert Canto (Board 4) to take home P4,000 cash.

Mariano, Garcia, Matutino, and Aguirre of CTAP was later hailed as overall liga champion to take home addition P4,000 cash prize, four gold medals and a team trophy.

Bernas, Reyes, Panaligan and Canto of the Iloilo Chess Hunters was the second overall liga champion to pocket P2,000, four silver medals and a trophy.

The NCFP-Rated Open Chess Liga was participated by 16 chess teams (64 chess players) coming from Iloilo, Capiz, Guimaras, Bacolod, and Davao./PN
