BACOLOD City – A 16-year-old out-of-school youth was injured after an altercation with a Grade 9 student outside a school in Barangay Ma-ao, Bago City, Negros Occidental, on the afternoon of July 13.
Police identified both individuals as minors.
Based on the initial investigation by the Bago City Police Station, the Grade 9 student had just left the school and was on his way home at around 4 p.m. when he encountered the 16-year-old standing along the roadside near a parking area.
Investigators said the two allegedly exchanged glances before the 16-year-old confronted the student and asked why he was looking at him. The student reportedly denied doing so.
Police said the 16-year-old allegedly threw the first punch, triggering a physical altercation.
During the confrontation, the Grade 9 student allegedly obtained a bladed weapon from the area and stabbed the 16-year-old in the chest.
The victim was immediately given first aid by responding authorities before being rushed to a hospital for treatment. He sustained a stab wound to the chest and was later classified as an outpatient.
After the incident, the Grade 9 student voluntarily surrendered to the Bago City Police Station. He was later turned over to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) for proper disposition in accordance with the law, as he is a minor.
