ILOILO – A 16-year-old boy died after the motorcycle he was driving figured in a collision with a sports utility vehicle (SUV) in Barangay Tingui-an, Balasan, Iloilo, around 1:15 p.m. on September 5.
The victim, identified only as alias “Toto,” a resident of Barangay Cano-an, Estancia town, was driving a Raider Fi motorcycle when the accident happened.
According to Police Lieutenant Dionisio Fernandez, deputy chief of the Balasan Municipal Police Station, the minor was reportedly speeding and failed to notice the SUV making a U-turn, resulting in the crash.
The Balasan Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) said the teenager sustained abrasions and a suspected internal hemorrhage. He was rushed to Jesus M. Colmenares District Hospital but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.
Authorities said the SUV was already on the opposite lane when it was hit by the motorcycle. The driver and three passengers of the SUV were unharmed.
The SUV driver was taken into police custody while investigation into the incident was ongoing./PN
