TESDA opens 1,399 skills training slots in Antique

SAN JOSE, Antique – The provincial office of the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) here encourages Antiqueños to enroll in the Barangay Kabuhayan Skills Training Program (BKSTP) set to open in several towns.

TESDA supervising specialist Karyn Mae Duay on Monday said 1,399 slots were provided in the province for the program.

“Antique has 10 fourth to fifth (class) municipalities where the BKSTP will be implemented,” Duay added.

She said the first town to implement the program was Anini-y, Antique. A total of 26 enrollees are currently taking up Shielded Metal Arc Welding-National Competency I (SMAW-NC I) under the BKSTP.

“The enrollees started their skills training last Nov. 15,” she added.

The SMAW-NC I, which runs for 36 days, is being handled by the Technical Vocational Institution (TVI) of Saint Anthony’s College (SAC) here.

Other towns allocated with a P1-million funding for the BKSTP include Tobias Fornier, Belison, Laua-an, Pandan, Barbaza, Libertad, Tibiao, Sebaste, and Valderrama.

“Those 15 years old and above interested to avail and enroll in the different courses may inquire with their municipal public service employment officer,” Duay said.

She added there were several programs from which they could choose, such as Dressmaking NC II, Wellness Massage NC II, Manicure and Pedicure, Hand Spa and Carpentry NC II.

“Aside from SAC, the Advance Central College and the TESDA provincial training center are also the TVIs that will implement the BKSTP,” Duay said.

The BKSTP was mandated under Republic Act 9509 or the Barangay Kabuhayan Act to open employment opportunities, combat poverty, and improve the quality of life of the Filipinos.(With a report from PNA/PN)
