Tightened security up in Boracay for Holy Week

BORACAY – Expecting more than 60,000 tourists in Boracay Island for Holy Week, security measures are tightened in ports, beaches, churches, and areas of convergence of travelers.

The security deployment included personnel from the Philippine National Police, the Armed Forces of the Philippines, the Philippine Coast Guard, and the Bureau of Fire Protection.

Police visibility in Boracay Island will be intensified, while police assistance desks, and foot and mobile patrols will also be mobilized to ensure the safety of residents and tourists.

Over 300 police officers are assigned to strategic places on mainland Malay and Boracay Island to safeguard worshippers and visitors alike.

Malay acting police chief Lieutenant Colonel Mar Joseph Ravelo reminded the public to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activities to the authorities.

Ravelo said they maximize the deployment of personnel through foot and beat patrols to make sure the travelers are safe during this religious observance and the summer months.

Local police will also enhance collaboration with stakeholders in Malay, Aklan to further deter the occurrence of crimes, he added./PN
