MANILA — The PBA Season 50 Commissioner’s Cup championship will be decided tonight as defending champion TNT Tropang 5G and Barangay Ginebra San Miguel Kings clash in a winner-take-all Game 7 at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m., with both teams one victory away from claiming the conference crown after a fiercely contested Finals series that remains deadlocked at 3-3.
TNT forced the deciding game after overcoming injuries and roster setbacks to defeat Ginebra, 98-90, in Game 6 on Sunday night at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The Tropang 5G leaned on the late-game scoring of import Chris McCullough, who received support from Roger Pogoy and Jordan Heading to keep their title defense alive.
TNT secured the victory despite missing key players Calvin Oftana and Brandon Ganuelas-Rosser, while veteran playmaker Jayson Castro exited early due to injury. The availability of all three players for the championship decider remains uncertain.
Should they remain sidelined, TNT head coach Vincent “Chot” Reyes is expected to turn to Rey Nambatac, Glenn Khobuntin and Henry Galinato for additional support alongside McCullough, Pogoy and Heading.
For Ginebra, import Justin Brownlee once again carried much of the offensive burden in Game 6, while Jeth Troy Rosario and Japeth Aguilar provided support in the paint.
To regain the championship, Ginebra head coach Tim Cone will need stronger offensive contributions from Stephen Holt, Rhon Jay Abarrientos and Scottie Thompson, who have struggled offensively during the last three games of the series.
Aside from defending its crown, TNT is aiming to snap a two-conference title drought and secure another championship in the franchise’s decorated history.
Ginebra, meanwhile, is seeking its first PBA title since 2023 and hopes to capitalize on its experience in high-pressure championship situations as it chases another crown.
With the series down to a single game, the league’s two powerhouse teams are expected to leave everything on the floor in what promises to be a fitting finale to one of the most competitive Commissioner’s Cup Finals in recent years./PN
