ILOILO — This province’s biggest taxpayers were honored Thursday as provincial officials underscored that billions of pesos in local development programs — from hospital modernization to scholarship grants and infrastructure projects — are being sustained by the faithful payment of taxes.
The provincial government recognized its top taxpayers for Calendar Year 2025 during the Top Taxpayers Awarding Ceremony on June 25, paying tribute to individuals and corporations whose tax compliance has significantly contributed to the province’s continuing growth.
Leading the Corporate Category was Palm Concepcion Power Corporation of Concepcion town after paying P48.406 million in real property taxes, while spouses Dennis Devicente and Dolores Devicente of the municipality of Leganes topped the Individual Category with P4.01 million in tax payments.
Vice Gov. Nathalie Ann Debuque, the event’s guest of honor, praised Ilonggos for consistently demonstrating responsible tax compliance over the years, stressing that taxes remain the lifeblood of government services and development projects.
“The taxes you pay are the backbone of the development of the province of Iloilo. Nagapasamat gid kami sa inyo maukod nga tuig-tuig nga pagbayad sang inyo nga taxes,” Debuque said.
She assured taxpayers that the provincial government would safeguard every peso collected and ensure that the funds are returned to communities through programs and projects that promote continued progress across Iloilo Province.
Provincial Treasurer Jean Maire Umadhay likewise emphasized that tax collections have enabled the provincial government to finance flagship initiatives, including the Iskolar sang Probinsya sang Iloilo scholarship program, the upgrading of the province’s 13 district hospitals, and the construction and improvement of schools, government buildings, roads, and other vital infrastructure.
She added that the strong compliance of taxpayers has also helped Iloilo maintain its standing as one of the country’s top-performing provinces in locally sourced revenues.
Umadhay assured awardees that, under the leadership of Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr., taxpayers’ money remains “safe and in accountable hands” as she thanked them for their continued support of the province’s development efforts.
The provincial government also recognized outstanding taxpayers in other categories, including annual fixed taxes on delivery trucks and vans and amusement tax collections.
