ILOILO City – Fifty-eight municipal police stations in Western Visayas had not arrested anyone for illegal drug offenses since March this year, data from the Police Regional Office 6’s (PRO-6) oversight committee for illegal drugs showed.

The police chiefs of these towns were ordered to explain, said Senior Superintendent Christopher Tambungan, committee chairperson.

“I believe there are still illegal drug traders in those towns, even new players,” said Tambungan.

He recently disclosed that in Iloilo province alone, 17 police stations had zero drug-related arrests from March to May.

The police chiefs of the 58 police stations may be charged administratively for negligence should they satisfactorily explain their performance, said Tambungan.

Aklan had 14 police stations with no drug-related arrests for three months; Capiz, 13; Antique, nine; and Guimaras, five.

The 17 Iloilo police stations were in the towns of Alimodian, Anilao, Badiangan, Barotac Viejo, Batad, Bingawan, Dingle, Dumangas, Guimbal, Igbaras, Janiuay, Lemery, Leon, Miag-ao, San Dionisio, San Rafael, and Tubungan.

The police stations in Aklan were in the towns of Altavas, Balete, Banga, Batan, Buruanga, Ibajay, Lezo, Libacao, Madalag, Makato, Malinao, Nabas, Numancia, and Tangalan.

In Capiz, the police stations were in the municipalities of Dao, Dumalag, Dumarao, Jamindan, Maayon, Mambusao, Panitan, Pontevedra, Pilar, President Roxas, Sapian, Sigma, and Tapaz.

In Antique, the police stations were in the towns of Barbaza, Belison, Bugasong, Laua-an, Pandan, San Remigio, Sebaste, Tibiao, and Valderama while in Guimaras, these were in the towns of Buenavista, Jordan, Nueva Valencia, San Lorenzo, and Sibunag.

One Iloilo town that Tambungan said he found hard to believe not having drug pushers anymore was Dumangas.

“Hindi ako maniwala na walang drug pushers sa Dumangas kasi may port sila at daanan talaga ng droga so, sabihin nila wala? Last year this town had the highest number of drug pushers arrested, now it’s zero?” added Tambungan./PN
