Life is one big story to tell. But we can break down the complex tale into phases or through bits and pieces. The same criterion applies to names and family names. Their chronicles are just waiting to be penned.
This is such a story.
In late 1994, Immanuel Dental Clinic opened its doors at the RPN-DXDX Building, along P. Acharon Boulevard in General Santos City, marking the beginning of the clinic’s journey. The dentist couple, Dr. Emil and Dr. Galina Daño-Yumang, chose the name “Immanuel,” meaning “God with us,” to honor God’s presence in both their family and profession – a declaration that His grace guided every step forward.
But as the clinic grew, so did the interesting stories that attached to the name. Many assumed that “Immanuel” was the dentist’s name, not realizing that it was actually a testimony of gratitude – a reminder that every success, every smile restored, was by God’s grace, and this simple mix-up planted the seed for change.
The first evolution happened in late 1999, when the clinic was reborn as Yumang Dental Clinic (YDC), now located on the 2nd floor of Mitchy’s Building in Magsaysay Avenue. The name change was more than just branding – it was about carrying the family name with pride, and giving recognition to the legacy that shaped them.
The legacy traces its roots to a family of Kapampangans, where dentistry runs deep in the bloodline. Dr. Emiliano Domingo Yumang’s eldest brother, Dr. Antonio D. Yumang, established a very profitable practice in Butuan City, but when his children started college, the family moved to Cebu City. Thereupon, Dr. Emiliano Yumang took over the clinic. Meanwhile, a younger brother, Dr. Alberto D. Yumang, together with his wife, Dr. Fatima, established their practice in Angeles City, Pampanga. Presently, the YDC in Angeles City is managed by the succeeding generation, while the ones in Butuan City and General Santos City have expanded to include the third-generation dentists.
When Dr. Emiliano offered his eldest son, Dr. Emil C. Yumang, the opportunity to establish his practice in General Santos City, it was both a new beginning and a continuation of a long-standing tradition. General Santos was not unfamiliar – some relatives bearing the Yumang name were already there, and they became the family’s first support system. With their warm welcome and help, Dr. Emil and Dr. Gal braved their new career beginnings in a new city, blending professional excellence with deep-rooted faith.
From those early years, the Yumang name became synonymous with trust, compassion, and thoroughness. The clinic wasn’t just a workplace; it was a cornerstone of care for the patients who were treated like family, while faith guided every decision.
Excitingly, in July 2025, the story has entered a new and dynamic chapter with the establishment of Yumang Medical & Dental Clinic (YMDC) – a symbol of growth, continuity, and grace. The next generation now leads this vision: Dr. Kit Emmanuel Emil Milgleen D. Yumang, General Surgeon; Dr. Corinne Janelle D. Yumang, Oral Surgeon; and Dr. Galina Daño-Yumang, General Dentistry and Orthodontics.
This transformation from a purely dental clinic to a full-fledged medical and dental clinic reflects the family’s enduring commitment to holistic health. It represents growth that honors its roots – combining faith, skill, and compassion under one roof.
From Angeles, to Butuan, and to General Santos City, the journey of the Yumang family stands as a living testimony that with faith at the center, success is not just achieved – it’s graced. Through every name change, every generation, and every patient cared for, one truth remains constant: Immanuel – God with us.
