Transparency seminar for Bacolod City officials set

BACOLOD City – Village and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) officials in this capital city will undergo a three-day seminar on transparency this September.

The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) spearheads the seminar dubbed as “Barangay Newly Elected Officials towards Grassroots Renewal and Empowerment for Accountable and Transparent (BNEO for GREAT) Barangays Program” which has three batches.

The first batch was held on Aug. 28, 29 and 30.

The second and third batches are scheduled on Sept. 4 to 6 and Sept. 11 to 13, respectively.

Village and SK officials from 20 villages participated in the first batch.

Officials from 21 villages will attend the second batch while the remaining 20, in the third batch.

The seminar will be held at the Resorts Negrense in Barangay Punta Taytay.

The BNEO for GREAT Barangays Program is a term-based capacity development program designed to meet leadership challenges at the community level, according to the DILG.

It aims to “prepare barangay officials to actively fulfill their roles and relevance to development” of their respective communities, the DILG added.

Among the topics included in the seminar are decentralization and governance, barangay government administration, public accountability, barangay-based institutions, peace and order, local legislation, barangay development planning, barangay finance administration, barangay budget and procurement, national program thrusts, disaster preparedness, barangay drug-clearing operations, barangay justice system, and crafting the barangay agenda for development.
