ILOILO City – Panay News’ 45th anniversary drew strong backing from Iloilo City’s top leaders, who credited the regional newspaper as a crucial force in strengthening public trust, improving governance, and holding institutions accountable amid a rapidly shifting media landscape.
Mayor Raisa Treñas emphasized that the publication’s longevity is not just a milestone but a testament to its enduring role as a reliable bridge between government and the people.
“Forty-five years is no small achievement. That is 45 years of telling stories, telling the truth, and being a steady source of information for our people here in Iloilo City and in Western Visayas,” the mayor said.
Former mayor and congressman Jerry Treñas echoed the sentiment, describing the publication’s four decades of service as both admirable and impactful.
“More than four decades of delivering credible news and meaningful stories to the people of Iloilo and the rest of Western Visayas is not only admirable but truly inspiring,” he said.
In an era of fast-paced and often unreliable information flows, Mayor Raisa Treñas noted that Panay News has remained steadfast in upholding journalistic standards.
“In all those years, you have remained committed to responsible journalism, something that we truly value, especially in today’s fast-changing media landscape,” she added.
Meanwhile, drawing from his experience in public service, former mayor and congressman Jerry Treñas he acknowledged the paper’s role in amplifying government programs and initiatives.
“I sincerely thank you for being a valued partner in sharing the city’s programs, services, and initiatives with our people,” he added.
He also praised the publication’s adherence to ethical standards, saying its reporting contributes to better governance.
“Thank you for your fairness, balance, and integrity in reporting. Your work not only informs but also helps guide us in improving the way we serve,” he said.
Mayor Raisa Treñas, on the other hand, also underscored the publication’s role in translating government actions into public understanding, noting its impact on civic engagement and accountability.
“Because of you, mas naintindihan sang aton nga mga pumuluyo kung ano aton ginaubra para sa ila kaayohan,” she said. “You have helped strengthen communication between the government and the community, build awareness, encourage participation, and even push us to do better.”
She expressed hope that Panay News will sustain its influence as a unifying voice in the region.
“As you celebrate this milestone, I hope that you can continue what you have been doing so well for the past 45 years — being a voice that inspires and unites,” she said.
