CAPIZ — Police arrested a tricycle driver and a construction worker in separate anti-drug operations conducted Wednesday evening, January 7, in Roxas City and Panay town.
The operations were carried out by local police units as part of intensified efforts to curb illegal drug activities in the province.
The first arrest took place in Barangay Mongpong, Roxas City, where operatives arrested 28-year-old Elton Alvarez, also known by the alias “Mark Clinton,” a tricycle driver and resident of Barangay Punta Tabuc. Police identified Alvarez as a high-value individual.
Authorities said the suspect was arrested in a buy-bust operation, which led to the recovery of five plastic sachets of suspected methamphetamine hydrochloride, locally known as shabu, weighing about 25 grams and with an estimated street value of P170,000.
Several non-drug-related items were also recovered during the operation. Alvarez is currently detained at the Roxas City Police Station pending the filing of appropriate charges.
In a separate operation in Panay town, police arrested a 32-year-old construction worker identified only by the alias “Toto,” a resident of Barangay Tanza Sur, during a buy-bust operation in Barangay Bato.
Police recovered nine plastic sachets of suspected shabu from the suspect, with an estimated value of P61,200. He is now in custody at the Panay Municipal Police Station.
Both suspects will be charged for violations of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
Police reiterated their commitment to sustaining anti-illegal drug operations in the province and encouraged the public to report suspicious activities to authorities.
Officials said they will continue pursuing all leads and maintain a zero-tolerance policy against illegal drugs to help ensure public safety and community welfare./PN
