CAPIZ — Tricycle drivers in Roxas City are appealing to the government to take action to curb rising fuel prices, saying the continued increase is taking a heavy toll on their livelihoods.
In a local radio interview, veteran tricycle driver John Abenda shared the difficulties he and his fellow drivers are facing as gasoline prices continue to climb.
Abenda said their daily earnings are no longer enough to cover fuel expenses and provide for their families’ basic needs.
He explained that what they earn from ferrying passengers often leaves them with little to no money for food and household expenses.
“Sometimes, I have to borrow money from my fellow drivers just to buy food,” Abenda said.
The financial strain, he added, has forced some drivers to stop operating altogether, leaving them without income and reducing transportation options for commuters in the city.
Abenda said the situation affects not only tricycle drivers but also residents who rely on tricycles as an affordable and accessible mode of transportation.
The drivers are hoping the government will respond to their call for assistance, saying that measures to reduce fuel prices would help ease their burden and allow them to continue serving the public.
