MANILA – The insinuation of Sen. Antonio “Sonny” Trillanes IV that President Rodrigo Duterte is as corrupt as the Binay family has offended Sen. Nancy Binay.
“He doesn’t have an inch of credibility and yet he talks like a saint,” Sen. Binay said in a statement on Thursday.
In an interview with CNN Philippines, Trillanes on Tuesday again accused Duterte of amassing billions of ill-gotten wealth.
“He is as corrupt as the Binays,” the former Navy official said.
According to senator Binay, her father Jejomar Binay, then vice president, accused of violating the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act in relation to the alleged overpriced construction of a parking building, worked hard during his mayoral sting in making Makati City a progressive city.
“Unlike the senator who yaps a lot, the President and the former vice president get things done whenever they speak,” the eldest daughter of the elder Binay said.
“Sana bago magmalinis si Senator Trillanes ay sagutin muna niya yung pagkuha ng sangkatutak na consultants na binabayaran ng Senado kasama ang kanyang kapatid.”
His criticisms against the president were a reminiscent of the Senate investigations into the allegations of corruption against her family, Binay said.
It may be recalled that Trillanes led the Binay corruption probe.
“Sa halip na makatulong sa gobyerno sa pag-angat ng antas ng pamumuhay ng taumbayan, naging ugali na ni Senator Trillanes ang manira ng kapwa kahit walang basehan,” Binay said./PN
