MANILA – Sen. Antonio “Sonny” Trillanes IV said he deserves to run for a higher position in 2016.

“We have to raise this country to the next level. I believe we have served this country well enough to be worthy to be considered by the Filipino people,” he stressed.

The former Philippine Navy officer said he is “ready” to run for either president or vice president.

His campaign platform will focus on anti-corruption, peace and order, and poverty alleviation, the senator said.

The Nacionalista Party (NP) will choose its standard bearer by December, Trillanes also revealed.

Maraming qualified sa NP, so ang next step is ang pag-express ng interes para masama sa proseso ng pagpili,” he said.

The party, according to him, has yet to fill its senatorial lineup for the next elections.

Wala pa tayo sa political preparation. Mental and academic preparation pa lang kasi pinag-aaralan natin ang iba’t-ibang problema ng bansa,” Trillanes shared.

What if NP won’t consider him for any higher position in 2016?

Trillanes said he will respect any party decision. He said he won’t run as an independent candidate.

“I have decided to belong to this party, so I should abide with the decisions of the party,” Trillanes said.

Other NP members who are possible contenders for president include Senators Alan Peter Cayetano and Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

Sen. Cynthia Villar, wife of former senator and NP president Manny Villar, previously said those who are planning to run should be popular enough to become president or vice president.

Villar also asked her colleagues to “be practical” because it would be “illogical” if they run for the same position against each other./PN
