PAVIA, Iloilo – A dump truck fell on its side after hitting an electric post around 3:50 p.m. yesterday in Barangay Ungka 2.
Aside from spilling its load — a mix of loose soil and boulders — onto the highway, the truck also crushed a Honda CRV right next to it.
The incident on circumferential road caused traffic congestion that lasted more than an hour in the area.
The truck driven by Abundio Pabuaya Jr., 49, of Barangay Ermita, Dumangas town lost its brakes, initial police investigation showed.
Paul Niño De Ramos, 37, of Antipolo City was driving the Honda CRV. He managed to get out of the vehicle after the impact. He sustained minor injuries.
Pabuaya’s 16-year-old companion sustained abrasions.
Rescuers from the Bureau of Fire Protection removed him from the truck and took him to the Western Visayas Medical Center in Mandurriao, Iloilo City.
Pabuaya was detained in the lockup cell of the Pavia police station.
From Dumangas, the truck was on its way to CentroVerde, said Police Officer 2 Jonlord Moleño, investigator.
“Pag-abot da sa tulay, nadulaan sia sang preno sunu sa drayber kag gin-try niya i-hulog sa shoulder sang karsada,” said Moleño. “I-sandig ya tani ang trak sa pader sang gina-obra nga building, pero nagdire-diretso kay mabug-at ang iya karga.”
“Lapit sa intersection, ginbunggo ya sa poste, pero natumba sa kag natup-an ya ang isa ka CRV nga nagapundo,” he said. (Panay Balita/PN)
