ILOILO – A 14-year-old backrider died while the driver was injured after their motorcycle was ran over by a delivery truck around 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, October 30, in Barangay Jaguimitan, Passi City, Iloilo.
Alias “Dion”, a resident of Guimaras Village, Barangay Jaguimitan, suffered fatal injuries and was declared dead on arrival at the hospital by the attending physician. The driver, alias “Ren”, 15, of the city’s Barangay Talongonan, survived the accident but sustained injuries in the different parts of his body.
According to Police Master Sergeant John Hersley Fajardo of the Passi City Police Station, the two motorcycle-riding minors were from Talongonan en route to Jaguimitan proper to play basketball when the incident occurred.
While traversing a sloping portion of the road, Fajardo said the motorcycle halted. The delivery truck following it allegedly failed to brake in time and ran over the motorcycle.
The truck driven by alias “Noli” was loaded with sand and gravel, police said.
Noli voluntarily surrendered to police after the accident.
As of this writing, Passi City police were still investigating the incident.
Authorities added that the delivery truck’s owner and the victims’ families have initially agreed for settlement./PN
