Down 25-26 late in the fourth set, Poyos drilled a powerful hit to tie the score for the last time at 26-all before she knocked down back-to-back attacks to secure the win for the Golden Tigresses.

Poyos finished with 18 points, all coming from attacks, to go with 10 excellent digs and 10 excellent receptions as the Golden Tigresses finished the first round of eliminations with a 7-0 win-loss slate.

Jonna Perdido added 16 points, including three pivotal points late in the fourth set to kept the Golden Tigresses alive, while Regina Jurado ended with 12 markers for the Golden Tigresses.

This was the Golden Tigresses first 7-0 start in the UAAP women’s volleyball tournament since the Season 69 (2006-2007) where they have a 6-0 first round record and won their first game of the second round under head coach August Santamaria.

“Syempre masaya pero mahaba pa ang liga, and luckily ‘Lucky 7’ ‘yung markado namin ngayong first round so malaking challenge sa amin ‘yung paparating the second round,” said UST head coach Emilio “Kung Fu” Reyes.

Ishie Lalongisip led the way for the Lady Falcons with 14 points, AA Adolfo and Lucille Almonte added 12 markers apiece, while Mary Ann Nuique ended with 10 points. They dropped to 2-5.
