BACOLOD City – Several members of the United Negros Alliance (UNegA) are urging Vice Gov. Jeffrey Ferrer to seek reelection instead of running for congressman in Negros Occidental’s 4th District by 2025.

UNegA secretary-general and Cadiz City mayor Salvador Escalante Jr. revealed that this was the sentiment of the majority of mayors during a gathering on Dec. 9.

But “nothing is definite yet about the 2025 elections,” Escalante clarified, adding that it would still be up to Ferrer.

The local political party will hold a general assembly at least three months before the filing of Certificates of Candidacy for the 2025 midterm elections set for October 2024.

Last month, Ferrer announced he would no longer run for a final term as Negros Occidental vice governor and would instead seek the 4th Ddistrict’s congressional post.

Following Ferrer’s announcement, several possible candidates for the province’s vice gubernatorial bid in 2025 have surfaced.

The individuals reportedly shortlisted by UNegA are Negros Occidental Board Member Jose Marie Alonso; Mayor Nicholas Yulo of Bago City; Mayor Raymund Tongson of Himamaylan City; and Mayor Rhumylla Mangilimutan of La Castellana. (Watchmen Daily Journal)/PN
