BACOLOD City – Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez is inclined to take action against punong barangays for non-compliance with the Commission on Audit (COA).
The mayor said he recently talked with COA, which sent out letters to barangays that did not submit the required monthly financial reports.
“I will not hesitate to bring these barangay captains to the city council for proper disposition regarding their violation,” the mayor said.
COA Circular No. 2019-001, dated Jan. 30, 2019, requires the submission of reports of barangay financial transactions.
Failure of the barangay to submit the original copy of disbursement vouchers signed by the payees, together with corresponding supporting documents and duplicate copies of the checks and punong barangay certification, shall cause the issuance of the COA Auditor’s Advice to the authorized government and depository bank, which shall withhold further payments of checks issued by the concerned barangay.
Meanwhile, the Department of Interior and Local Government, in cooperation with the city government, honored 12 best-performing barangays following a recent assessment.
These were barangays 5, 8, 33, 1, 15, Vista Alegre, Bata, Granada, 32, Montevista, Pahanocoy, and Taculing.
The assessment covered key areas, including the seal of good local governance for barangays, compliance with administrative governance, accomplishment reports, Buhay Ingatan, Droga’y Ayawan initiatives, and awards received./PN
