ILOILO — A high-value drug suspect working at a local state university was caught with over P816,000 worth of suspected shabu during a sting operation in Santa Barbara town on Wednesday night, May 20.
The suspect identified as alias “Wax/Bax,” 54, a casual worker of the Iloilo State University of Fisheries Science and Technology, was cornered by anti-narcotics teams around 7:43 p.m. in the town’s Barangay Balabag.
Five plastic sachets of suspected shabu weighing around 120 grams were recovered from the suspect. The operation was a collaborative effort by the Iloilo Police Provincial Office’s Provincial Drug Enforcement Unit Team 1 and Provincial Intelligence Unit, and the Santa Barbara Municipal Police Station (MPS).
Police Brigadier General Josefino D. Ligan, director of Police Regional Office 6, lauded the swift arrest, emphasizing that intelligence-driven operations will continue to ruthlessly target the illegal drug trade across Western Visayas.
The suspect was detained at Sta. Barbara MPS. He will be charged for violating Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002./PN
