
ILOILO City – The Department of Agriculture Special Area for Agricultural Development (DA-SAAD) in Western Visayas turned over various farm equipment and vegetable seeds to upland farmers in barangays Tigmamale and Bugnay in Valderrama, Antique.
On Wednesday, Feb. 4, members of the Tigmamale Irrigators Association (10 initial farmers) and Bugnay Irrigation Association got the following items: seeds for eggplant , squash , hot pepper , sweet pepper; plastic mulch; organic fertilizer; seedling tray; spade; spading fork; sprinkler; trowel; pronged rake; water drums; and two-inch hose.
This project worth P376,460 was funded under the 2020 budget. It aims to support the SAAD rice and production projects in the municipality.
Elvin Acosta, SAAD Area Coordinator for Valderrama, said beneficiaries expressed gratitude to the DA for providing help to hard-to-reach barangays through the SAAD intervention which is expected to speed up their farm activities and improve the quality of their produce.
The DA-SAAD had been delivering livelihood projects since 2019 to bolster the marginal farmers’ rice, corn, vegetable, and animal production in the five priority municipalities in Western Visayas. (With a report from DA-6/PN)
