MANILA – The United States’ interest rate policies are going to “make a big impact” to the global economy including the Philippines, an analyst said.
“They might raise rates by summer of next year but it’s really how much the US is going to raise rates or how many times,” Luis Limlingan, head of sales of Regina Capital, told ANC.
If that happens, shares could reach 7,200 level, Limlingan said.
The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas might use its Monetary Policy meeting scheduled on June 20 to “assess the the tools, as well as how fast they’re going to raise rates,” he said.
“They might pull the trigger again the second time, perhaps in August or September,” Limlingan said.
The BSP has raised the benchmark interest rates by 25 basis points to 3.25 percent in May, as inflation hovers at its highest in over 5 years. (ABS-CBN News)
