‘Use Bacolod bike lanes’

BACOLOD City – Bike lanes must be used in this capital city, said Councilor Cindy Rojas.

The Department of Public Works and Highways in Bacolod has already made markings that separate the bike lanes from other part of the road used by motorists, she added.

Using the bike lanes allows safe travel for bikers, motorists and pedestrians, Rojas said, citing City Ordinance 09-17-808 series of 2017.

The city council requested the Bacolod Traffic Authority Office (BTAO) to promote the use of the bike lanes.

BTAO was also instructed to make sure that these bike lanes are used properly, and not as parking areas.

Rojas said there is a need for the city government to “closely” monitor these lanes in line with Section 16 of the Local Government Code, which states that “duty of every local government unit to exercise the powers expressly granted, those necessarily implied therefrom and those which are essential to the promotion of the general welfare of its people.”/PN
