Uson’s party-list headed defeat

Former Palace communications assistant secretary Mocha Uson’s party-list is heading defeat, being attributed to her not being visible to the public during the campaign period.

MANILA – Former Palace communications assistant secretary Mocha Uson’s party-list was headed to defeat in the recent midterm elections.

Based on the latest partial and unofficial count from the Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Friday, AA-Kasosyo was at 72nd place with 0.43 percent of the votes.

ACT-CIS or Anti-Crime and Terrorism through Community Involvement and Support, backed by media personality Erwin Tulfo, led the race while 1Bayan Muna placed second with 4.02 percent.

Presidential Spokesman Salvador Panelo said Uson’s defeat was surprising but it could be attributed to her not being visible to the public during the campaign period.

“Hindi siya nag-concentrate sa pagkampaniya. Baka she was overconfident considering na she has 5-million followers and most of them are overseas na bumuboto. Kasi alam ko nangangampaniya siya for others,” Panelo said.

Uson, who resigned from Malacañang last year after a string of gaffes and controversies, was the first nominee of AA-Kasosyo – which aimed to help Filipinos, particularly overseas workers of becoming successful entrepreneurs.

Uson’s party-list was not exempted from controversy as it was among the groups linked to the P10-billion pork barrel scam allegedly masterminded by Janet Lim-Napoles.

In 2011, AA-Kasosyo (Kasosyo Producer-Consumer Exchange Association) party-list through its then representative in Congress – former Agrarian Reform secretary Nasser Pangandaman – allegedly funneled P15-million of its priority development assistance fund to the Kaupdanan para sa Mangunguma Foundation Inc.

The project supposedly benefitted 776 people who received organic high-value harvest packages worth P15,450 each. /PN
