ANTIQUE – In a significant boost to the education sector, the Uswag Ilonggo Party-list rolled out its One-Barangay-One-Scholar Program in Antique province, giving out P10,000 each to 1,114 student beneficiaries.
This initiative aims to alleviate financial burdens and promote educational attainment among the region’s youth.
During a ceremony held yesterday in Sibalom gym, Cong. Jojo Ang of the Uswag Ilonggo Party-list underscored his commitment to education as a vital tool for community development and individual empowerment.
“Investing in our students is investing in the future of Antique. This assistance will help ensure that financial barriers do not hinder their educational journeys,” said Cong. Ang.
The selected beneficiaries are students from across 18 municipalities in Antique enrolled in various schools and universities, and the amount is to cover essential educational costs such as tuition fees, school supplies, and other learning materials.
Gratitude poured in from both parents and students, who highlighted the program’s significant impact on their educational pursuits.
“I would like to thank Cong. Jojo Ang of Uswag Ilonggo Party-list. Ini nga educational assistance bahol gid nga bulig sa amon pag-eskwela. Uswag Ilonggo, Uswag Kabataang Antiqueño,” said Dominic Pojas, a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education Major in English student of University of Antique and from Barbaza, Antique.
Local government units have welcomed the initiative, recognizing its potential to improve enrollment rates and reduce financial stress on families.
“Selected students from Antique were grateful this first day of August, as they received P10,000 cash assistance from Uswag Ilonggo Party-list through the Educational Assistance Program, Para sa Kauswagan sang Kabataan,” said Mayor Gian Carlo Occeña of the host municipality of Sibalom.
The educational assistance program of the Uswag Ilonggo Party-list is part of a broader effort to enhance educational access and quality in the region.
