MANILA – Changes are in store for one of the longest running volleyball leagues in the country as the Shakey’s V-League changes its name to the Philippine V-League starting next year.
Ricky Palou of Sports Vision said in a statement that the name change is just one of the many innovations the league is set to undergo next year to entice more volleyball fans.
Palou also noted that Shakey’s Pizza will remain one of the league’s major sponsors when the 14th season unfurls on March, but on a more limited capacity.
“It will be Philippine V-League starting in our Season 14,” Palou said. “Shakey’s will still be one of our major sponsors.”
Palou also said that, unlike in previous years, Season 14 will begin with the Reinforced Conference on March where the Pocari Sweat Lady Warriors is the defending champion.
It will be followed by the Open Conference on July with the Lady Warriors as the reigning titlist before ending the season with the Collegiate Conference and the National University Lady Bulldogs occupying the throne.
“We want the Collegiate Conference to be closest to the UAAP and NCAA volleyball season, which are usually held late in the year,” Palou said./PN
