ILOILO City – Grenades and a weighing scale were recovered from a vacant lot in Barangay Bakhaw, Mandurriao district.

They were spotted by resident Jenny Rose Alejandro, 24, around 5:30 p.m. on May 26, according to Chief Inspector Al Bigay, Mandurriao police chief.

The recoveries – a rifle grenade, two MK2 grenades, a 1M67 grenade, and the weighing scale – were inside a bag.

The weighing scale was believed to have been used in weighing a shabu.

Bigay believed drug pushers owned the grenades and the weighing scale.

“They know we are conducting a massive antidrug campaign in the area. They likely concealed the bag in the vacant lot,” he said.

The recovered items were turned over to the Explosive Ordnance Division (EOD) of Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO).

Bigay said his men were concentrating their antidrug operation in Barangay Bakhaw where fugitive suspected drug lord Richard Prevendido lived.

The acting director of the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6), Chief Superintendent Cesar Hawthorne Binag, said the arrest of the elusive Prevendido and “all high-value (drug) targets” remains a priority.

Binag’s predecessor, Chief Superintendent Jose Gentiles, left Western Visayas failing to arrest Prevendido.

Gentiles gave his men until Dec. 31, 2016 to arrest Prevendido but efforts to locate the drug suspect were unsuccessful despite tips from informants and a P1-million bounty from the city and provincial governments of Iloilo.

Prevendido has a pending warrant of arrest for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002./PN
