PASIG mayor Vico Sotto was admittedly confused when his announcement of class suspensions in his city early Wednesday was flooded with comments referencing the ever-memeable hit afternoon drama “Kadenang Ginto.”
Two hours after he first announced the cancellation of classes due to tropical storm Falcon, Sotto followed up with a tweet expressing his confusion to the replies he was getting.
“Sino po ba si Cassie at puro ganito ang reply niyo sa ‘kin? Ano ‘yun, lahat kayo may kapatid na Cassie ang pangalan? Someone explain this meme to me please para makatulog na ako,” he wrote, with laughing emoji.
“KG Fans,” as the series’ loyal viewers are called, stormed Sotto’s notifications yet again, with replies to the query reaching nearly a thousand.
Many of them linked to a viral video of a child re-enacting a scene from “Kadenang Ginto,” where Daniela (Dimples Romana) prohibits Cassie (Francine Diaz) from attending classes, hence the line: “Cassie, hindi ka muna papasok sa school.”
Diligent fans also sent Sotto a link to the original scene which aired in March 2019.
“Kadenang Ginto” has spawned countless memes over its nine months on air, including the ubiquitous “Daniela the Explorer” which secured Dimples Romana a stint with the Department of Tourism.
The Dreamscape productions’ strong presence online translates from its wide viewership on TV. In June, it ranked 7th overall as the most watched program for the month, with an average nationwide rating of 23.7% — a feat for a program outside the primetime block. (ABS-CBN News)
