ILOILO City – As thousands of residents trekked to local cemeteries, a village councilman was nabbed in a drug buy-bust operation in Barangay Bita-og, Sta. Barbara, Iloilo.

The 46-year-old resident Nelson Solas – tagged as a “high-value” target – was caught around 5:40 p.m. on Friday.

Prior to his arrest, Solas sold a sachet of suspected shabu to a poseur-buyer for P1,000, municipal police station chief Major Raymond Celoso told Panay News.

“The suspect does not stay long in one place that’s why we found it hard to negotiate with him,” Celoso said.

Police seized from Solas 15 sachets of suspected shabu valued at around P20,000. The operation was conducted near his house.

Celoso further said that the suspect was subject to more than a week of surveillance.

“He (Solas) admitted to us that he is a uses and also sells illegal drugs in order to survive. However, he refused to give us the name of his supplier,” Celoso said.

Solas was detained in the custodial facility of the municipal police station.

Charges for violation of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 will be filed against him./PN
