Village councilman yields P2.8-M ‘shabu’, gun in Sara buy-bust

ILOILO City – Police arrested a village councilman in a drug buy-bust operation on Monday, November 24, in Barangay Aldeguer, Sara, Iloilo.

The suspect was identified as alias “Atjo”, 60, and a kagawad of the town’s Barangay Castor.

Officers of the Sara Municipal Police Station (MPS) caught the suspect at around 6 p.m. after he sold P13,000 worth of suspected shabu to a police asset.

Seized from his possession were around P420 grams of the said illegal substance approximately valued at P2.8 million and a homemade 5.56mm pistol with 10 rounds of ammunition.

Police Captain Theodore Roosevelt Saboy of Sara MPS said the operation was launched based on tips from concerned citizens.

“The suspect was under monitoring for a long time and we received information that his drug source is from the town of Estancia, Iloilo,” said Saboy.

Atjo was detained at Sara MPS, facing charges for violation of Republic Act (RA) No. 9165 (Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002) and RA 10591 (Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act).

Police Colonel Bayani Razalan, director of the Iloilo Police Provincial Office, commended his men for arresting the aforementioned drug suspect.
