BACOLOD City – The local Commission on Elections (Comelec) office considers holding a special voter registration at the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital.
Upon the request of Negrense Commissioner Rowena Guanzon, the Comelec central office ordered the conduct of special voter registrations in government hospitals nationwide.
“We will try to coordinate with them (the regional hospital) if it is viable,” said Atty. Mavil Majarucon-Sia, city election officer.
Sia already raised concerns. For one, the hospital is under construction, she said.
Sia said they may host the registration outside “if we install a tent” or in the hospital offices, but the latter are secluded and would not allow many people to notice.
She said they were still trying to reach Dr. Julius Drilon, chief of hospital.
Sia said she received a copy of the central office directive three days before their special registration for girls and women in line with the observance of the International Women’s Day on Wednesday.
A total of 731 locals registered at the three sites during the International Women’s Day voter registration.
Sia said the event was peaceful and devoid of any problem.
Host barangays Estefania and Mandalagan were cooperative and supportive. They provided the registrants free water, coffee and juice, and facilitated the photocopying of documents, the election officer said.
