BACOLOD City – Vice President Sara Duterte-Carpio visited residents severely affected by Typhoon “Tino” and Typhoon “Uwan” in Negros Occidental on November 11, extending immediate assistance and relief to displaced families.
Her first stop was Himamaylan City, where she pledged 1,000 family food boxes to support affected households. At the Himamaylan National High School, she was welcomed by Mayor Raymund Tongson, city councilors, and over 1,000 internally displaced persons (IDPs).
During her visit, Duterte-Carpio personally interacted with a 10-year-old boy celebrating his birthday, gifting him a pair of shoes. She also pledged an iPhone 17 to Barangay 3 Sangguniang Kabataan chairman Mark Salem, whose birthday on November 3 was postponed due to his community service in preparation for the typhoon.
The Vice President then proceeded to Binalbagan Gymnasium in Binalbagan town, where she visited IDPs and pledged to provide GI sheet materials for rebuilding damaged homes. She continued her tour to other affected areas, including La Castellana, Moises Padilla, La Carlota City, Bago City, and Bacolod City, distributing family food boxes to residents in need.
Duterte-Carpio informed the IDPs that she would continue her disaster relief efforts the following day in Cebu, another area heavily impacted by Typhoon “Tino,” and that her office plans to visit areas affected by Typhoon “Uwan” after damage assessments are completed.
During her visits, she reminded the residents to observe safety measures during calamities, including praying, bringing personal belongings, knowing the location of evacuation centers, and keeping a charged cellphone ready. She emphasized the importance of preparedness, especially in Negros, which has experienced multiple calamities including the Kanlaon Volcano eruption, typhoons, and earthquakes./PN
