Wanted: ‘Detailed plan’ for Bacolod drainage

BACOLOD City – City District Engineer Abraham Villareal was ordered to provide a “detailed plan” for the drainage projects in the city.

Councilor Wilson Gamboa Jr. said Villareal must furnish a copy of the plan for the mayor and the Sangguniang Panlungsod’s (SP) perusal.

In a resolution approved last week, Gamboa said proper coordination in implementing projects in the city is needed.

In the case of the drainage projects, the councilor said the Department of Public Works and Highways and the city government must work together to “ensure that flooding in Bacolod will be a thing of the past.”

Citing Section 2(c) of the Local Government Code of 1991, Gamboa also stressed that periodic consultations among the local government unit, nongovernment and people’s organizations, and other stakeholders must be conducted before the implementation of any project.

The resolution was passed after monsoon-triggered floods hit Bacolod.

The flooding has inconvenienced motorists in the city, especially on Lacson Street where a drainage project is ongoing./PN
