ILOILO City – Wet weather is expected to persist across Western Visayas until the end of the week, with state weather forecasters predicting frequent rain showers and thunderstorms as the southwest monsoon continues to draw moisture into the region, aided by a nearby low pressure area (LPA).
Based on the five-day regional weather outlook released Monday by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) Visayas Regional Services Division, the provinces of Iloilo, Guimaras, Capiz, Aklan and Antique will experience mostly cloudy conditions with intermittent rains from Tuesday, June 30, through Friday, July 3.
Daytime temperatures across the region are expected to range between 25 and 33 degrees Celsius, while nighttime temperatures will generally stay between 25 and 30 degrees Celsius.
In Iloilo, temperatures are forecast to reach 30 degrees Celsius on Tuesday before gradually increasing to as high as 32 degrees Celsius later in the week. Moderate southwesterly winds will prevail, with sea conditions remaining moderate.
Guimaras will experience a similar weather pattern, with temperatures climbing from 30 degrees Celsius early in the week to around 32 degrees Celsius by Thursday and Friday. Coastal waters are likewise expected to remain moderate.
Capiz is forecast to record temperatures between 25 and 30 degrees Celsius until midweek before warming to as much as 33 degrees Celsius on Friday. Moderate winds from the southwest and south are expected throughout the period.
In Aklan, cloudy skies and scattered rain showers will continue over the next several days. While temperatures will also rise to around 33 degrees Celsius by Friday, PAGASA noted that stronger winds beginning Wednesday could make coastal waters moderate to rough.
Antique is also expected to experience recurring rain showers, with temperatures ranging from 25 to 32 degrees Celsius. Sea conditions may become rough by midweek as the southwest monsoon strengthens.
PAGASA advised residents to remain vigilant for localized flooding in low-lying communities and possible landslides in areas susceptible to slope failures, especially during heavy downpours.
The agency also urged fishermen and operators of small boats, particularly in Aklan and Antique, to exercise caution as stronger winds could create rougher seas during the latter part of the forecast period.
Although PAGASA has yet to issue an impact-based heavy rainfall warning for Western Visayas, it reminded the public that weather conditions can change rapidly and vary across localities. Residents are encouraged to monitor official advisories and prepare for periods of intense rainfall as the LPA continues to enhance the southwest monsoon over the Visayas./PN
