KALIBO, Aklan – A local heritage advocate has urged the local government of Kalibo to trace the meteorite that fell in this town some 101 years ago.

Jess Fernandez, founder of RoAkeanon community, said that according to scientific journals, a 2.4-kilogram meteorite fell in Tinigao, Kalibo on May 26, 1916. The science community dubbed it Calivo Meteorite.

Fernandez said that the meteorite is one of the 50 approved meteorites in the world according to the Meteorological Society.

The heritage advocate also said finding the exact location of the meteorite will help attract more tourists.

“I hope the local government of Kalibo would locate where the exact location of the meteorite fell. It is one of the possible another tourism lure of Kalibo,” she said./PN
