ILOILO City – On Saturday, barangay tanod Emilio Macaya of Bagacay East, Maasin, Iloilo told his drinking buddies – his fellow village watchmen – he was leaving them so he could go home early. It was around 9 p.m.
But the 55-year-old Macaya failed to come home, police investigators said.
At around 7:25 a.m. the following day, Sunday, some residents found him dead in a grassy lot with a deep laceration on the neck and a stab wound on the chest. Macaya was killed.
Senior Superintendent Marlon Tayaba, director of the Iloilo Police Provincial Office, said they have identified a suspect but could not name him yet.
“We are still trying to determine the motive,” said Tayaba.
From what investigators have so far gathered, Macaya left their house and reported to the barangay hall for work at 6 p.m. on Saturday.
Scene of the Crime Operatives found bloodstains in an establishment near the site where the body was found, said their leader Chief Inspector Hilarion Roga.
Roga said they were still trying to determine whose blood was it and if it can be linked to the crime./PN
