MANILA – Department of Justice (DOJ) secretary Vitaliano Aguirre said he does not know who alleged pork barrel scam mastermind Janet Lim Napoles will implicate in the pork barrel scam.
In a press conference yesterday, Aguirre said that aside from senators Leila de Lima, Antonio Trillanes IV and Franklin Drilon and former Budget secretary Florencio Abad, he has no direct knowledge on the other personalities that Napoles will name.
“Nandito lang kami sa DOJ to receive whatever complaints that will be filed,” said Aguirre. “It’s her call. She does not want to execute a statement where she has no personal knowledge.”
The four names were the only ones mentioned when he met Napoles’ lawyer Stephen David, said Aguirre.
The Justice secretary also said David mentioned that part of Napoles’ affidavit was about a high-ranking official from the Aquino administration who took the P10-million reward for Napoles’ arrest.
“If it was indeed claimed, it was a probably a Secretary who was first among equals,” added Aguirre.
Aguirre earlier said he planned to use Napoles as state witness in DOJ’s reinvestigation of the PDAF misuse by politicians during the time of President Benigno Aquino III.
However, the DOJ chief clarified that turning Napoles into state witness won’t absolve her from other plunder cases.
Napoles was recently been acquitted from the illegal detention rap filed by his distant relative, PDAF scam whistleblower Benhur Luy.
President Rodrigo Duterte floated the idea of reinvestigating the PDAF scam. He said former DOJ secretary Leila de Lima shielded allies of the Aquino administration from the pork barrel cases.
During de Lima’s time as DOJ secretary, only detained were then opposition senators Juan Ponce Enrile, Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr. and Jinggoy Estrada./PN
