WIT ILOPRISAA tertiary athletics champion

ILOILO City – Western Institute of Technology emerged as overall champions in the tertiary men’s athletics while settling for first runner up in the distaff side of the 2023 ILOPRISAA tournament recently.

Christian Paul Villar was hailed as the Most Outstanding Athlete after emerging with the most gold medals, including in tertiary men’s 100-meter dash, 200-meter dash and 400-meter dash.

Villar also had two relay gold medals in the 4×100-meter relay (with Radney Penoscas, Engelbert Granjeda and Jeizel Guillergan) and 4×400-meter relay (with Penoscas, Roger Bargat Jr. and Christian Earl Binobo).

Penoscas also had a gold medal in 110-meter hurdles and two silvers in the 400-meter dash and 400-meter hurdles, while Bargat also won a gold in 1500-meter run and a silver in 800-meter run.

Binobo, on the other hand, also emerged with a gold medal in the 400-meter hurdles, while Granjeda’s second medal in the competition was a silver in the tertiary men 100-meter dash.

Hilario Tagat Jr. bagged two golds in long jump and high jump and a silver in triple jump, Paulo Andaleza has two golds in javelin throw and 2000-meter walk, while Matt B. Atanas got a gold in shotput and a silver in javelin throw.

Reeve Pasadilla settled for a silver medal in the 110-meter hurdles and triple jump, while Jhon Mark Basea has two bronze medals in 10000-meter run and 3000-meter steeplechase.

Also with silver medals were Jimmy G. Calderon Jr. in 2000-meter walk, Jeremie Lou Malejana in discus throw and Christian Rull in shotput, while with bronze were Keneth Peñas in 800-meter run and Jan Bolivar in discus throw.

WIT women’s athletics team, meanwhile, settled for an overall runner up finish with Maila Lego leading the way with two gold medals in triple jump and high jump and silvers in 4×100 and 4×400 meter relay.

Joanna Rose Sajonia chipped in with a gold in javelin throw and bronzes in triple jump and long jump, while Sweden Villamor captured a gold in 5000-meter run and silver in 800-meter run, while Junelvn Garcia has a gold in 10000-meter run and silver in 5000-meter run.

Other silver medal winners were Crizel Castañeda, Jumelle Faith Alarcon, Jenerose  Estiaga, Marney Peingco and Leanne Rose Libo-on, while with bronze were Dailyn Cubita, Haila Lizada and Peingco.
