ANTIQUE – With no one challenging their reelection bids, the town mayors of Caluya, San Jose de Buenavista and Culasi may not bother campaigning.
Mayor Rigil Kent Lim of Caluya, Elmer Untaran of San Jose and Jose Jeffrey Lomugdang of Culasi are sure winners in the May 2022 elections.
Lim is under the National Unity Party (NUP) and is seeking a second term while Untaran is with Aksyon Demokratiko and is gunning for his third and final consecutive term.
“Sobra akong natutuwa nang aking mabalitaan na sa kauna-unang pagkakataon, magkakaroon ng eleksyon sa pagka-mayor sa bayan ng Caluya na walang kalaban,” according to Lim hours after the period for the filing of certificates of candidacy ended on Oct. 8.
He assured the people of Caluya of more development projects in agriculture, fisheries, infrastructure, education, social welfare and tourism geared at improving their lives.
In the 2019 election, Lim had a challenger, May Lim. Mayor Rigil Kent Lim garnered over 10,000 votes while May Lim got only over 5,000 votes
For his part, Untaran vowed to double his efforts in serving the people of San Jose.
He filed his COC on Friday morning last week after attend a Mass.
In the 2019 election, Untaran had a challenger, Felix Saldajeno. Untaran garnered over 20,000 votes while Saldajeno got only over 6,000 votes.
Meanwhile, Culasi’s Lomugdang is seeking a second term. He had an opponent in the 2019 elections, Ariel Alagos. Lomugdang got over 11,000 votes to defeat Alagos who got over 9,000 votes.
According to Commission on Elections assistant regional director Tomas Valera, the three mayors need only one vote to win because they have no opponents.
