ILOILO City – Western Visayas has 16 resorts and hotels that are of “star quality,” according to the recently published list of star-rated properties under the National Accommodation Standards for Hotels, Resorts and Apartment Hotels released by the Department of Tourism (DOT).

Ten of those accommodation establishments are in Boracay Island, two in Capiz, two in Iloilo City and two in Negros Occidental. Star-ratings of more than 50 more hotels, resorts and apartment hotels in the region are coming out soon.

Accommodation standards – applicable to resorts, hotels and apartment hotels – have five levels, ranging from one to five.

Western Visayas has two five-star rated resorts (Shangri-La’s Boracay Resort and Spa and Discovery Shores Boracay); five four-star resorts (7Stones Boracay Suites, Asya Premier Suites, Henann Regency Resort and Spa, Henann Garden Resort, Henann Lagoon Resort); two three-star resorts (Astoria Boracay and The Tides Hotel Boracay by Designer Hotels); two two-star resorts (Patio Pacific Resort Boracay and Palmas del Mar Conference Resort Hotel); two three-star hotels (Days Hotel Iloilo and L’Fisher Chalet); and three two-star hotels (Hotel Veronica, Urban Manor Hotel and Smallville21 Hotel).

Regional Director Atty. Helen J. Catalbas said these star-rated hotels and resorts are added attractions for tourists to come and visit Western Visayasbecause of its world-class facilities.

“The higher the star rating, the higher is the level of service and facilities quality, facility condition and environmental management. There are different kinds of tourists but they always look for the same thing in their accommodation-comfort, safety and excellent service,” Catalbas said.
Catalbasfurthermore urges more accommodation establishments to be DOT-accredited as they can only be endorsed for star classification once accredited by the agency.
“Accreditation ensures the public that a certain accommodation establishment has complied with the minimum requirements for a tourism facility to operate. DOT Region VI will continue to intensify and strengthen its accreditation campaign to ensure tourists will deal with only the best,” Catalbas noted./PN
