ILOILO City – From July 12 to 14, Western Visayas logged 85 deaths due to coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
The Department of Health (DOH) Region 6 recorded 26 deaths on July 14, 16 on July 13 and 43 on July 12, with the latter being the highest single-day number of fatalities recorded since the start of the pandemic.
As of July 14, Western Visayans who succumbed to the viral disease reached to 1,738.
The province of Negros Occidental had the highest COVID deaths at 352 followed by Iloilo province with 350.
Iloilo City, on the other hand, reported 331 COVID deaths while Bacolod City logged 330.
Capiz province had a total of 188 COVID deaths followed by Aklan (88), Antique (73) and Guimaras (26).
Based on the DOH-6’s July 13 situationer report, the region’s case fatality rate (CFR) was 2.31 percent – higher than the national CFR (as of July 6) which was 1.76 percent and global CFR’s 2.16 percent.
CFR, according to the World Health Organization, is the proportion of individuals diagnosed with a disease who die from that disease and is therefore a measure of severity among detected cases./PN
