WV has 4.75M voters in barangay election

ILOILO City – There  are 4,475,949 registered voters in Western Visayas for the barangay election this May 14, partial data from the Commission on Elections (Comelec) as of Dec. 18, 2017 showed.

In the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) election that will be held simultaneous with the barangay poll, Comelec data showed 1,588,499 registered youth voters.

Negros Occidental has the biggest number of registered voters for both the barangay and SK elections at 1,768,087 and 612,063 respectively.

Negros Occidental is made up of 13 cities, 19 municipalities and 601 barangays.

Iloilo province, on the other hand, has 1,413,246 registered voters for the barangay election and 486,261 voters for the SK poll.

The other provinces and their registered voters are:

* Capiz – 479,999 (barangay); 179,844 (SK)

* Aklan – 361,354 (barangay); 138,380 (SK)

* Antique – 342,251 (barangay); 130,162 (SK)

* Guimaras – 111,012 (barangay); 41,789 (SK)

There are 29,131 voting precincts for the barangay election and 28,752 precincts for the SK, Comelec data also showed.

Citing previous elections, however, Regional Director Dennis Ausan said the region’s voter turnout during polls is only between 70 percent to 75 percent on average.

Sickness, work abroad and death are among the reasons for this, explained Ausan./PN
